Opera by Tom Cipullo
based on the oral history by Tom Philpott
June 2, 3, 9 & 10
on the Baylander IX-514 at West Harlem Piers
Board the Baylander, a Vietnam war aircraft carrier, and be immersed in the story of Colonel Floyd James Thompson, America’s longest serving Prisoner of War. Experience the culture shock of the 60’s and 70’s, and observe how media and memory forge American identity.
7:30pm: On the deck of the Baylander, watch the sunset on the Hudson River with a mint julep in hand sporting your sweetest '60s look listening to The Zombies sing-- "She's not there"
8:30pm: Descend to the Jungle Deck to hear the true-story of Colonel "Jim" Thompson who returns home after 9 years of imprisonment in Vietnam to his wife, Alyce, and a changed America.
Adam Cannedy, Older Thompson
Margaret O'Connell, Older Alyce
Brett Pardue, Younger Thompson
Jaely Chamberlain, Younger Alyce
Ishmael Wallace, Pianist
